Pour empêcher son remariage, Dexter est prêt à tout, jusqu’à révéler les prétendues turpitudes de son ex-femme à son futur mari. Finalement, il la ré-épousera.

Adaptée d’une pièce de Phillip Barry, cette comédie ménée à un rythme d’enfer est aussi une féroce satire sociale. Mais, au delà, elle est réalisée par Cukor, l’homme qui connaissait les femmes. D’où la subtilité du portrait de Tracy, interprétée par Hepburn, et qui forme avec Grant et Stewart, l’un des plus beaux trios du cinéma.
